Weekend Update: Aug.1-3

The Dixie Gun & Knife Classic show will be in the Graham Building Saturday and Sunday. This buy, sell and trade show will feature modern and collectible firearms, custom-made knives, hunting and fishing equipment, ammunition, gun accessories, reloading supplies and more. Weekend Update: July 18-20

It’s a busy weekend at the N.C. State Fairgrounds. The Raleigh Antiques Extravaganza will take place in the Graham Building through Sunday. This event features over 125 exhibitors from up and dowm the East Coast showing quality antiques and old collectibles. Hours are Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $6.50 per day or $7.50 for a weekend pass. The State 4-H Horse Show will be at the Hunt Horse Complex through Sunday. This championship horse show features more than 2,600 entries in 123 classes, highlighting 4-H members exhibiting their project animals and demonstrating their riding and management skills. Hours are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Admission is free. Friday thru Sunday, the Gem and Jewelry Show will be in the Scott Building. Introducing Wesley Wyatt, State Fair manager

Like most children, young Wesley Wyatt didn’t dream of becoming the State Fair manager, but now there’s no job he’d rather have. Wyatt was born in Greensboro, lived in Burlington until he was 13, and since then has called Raleigh home. He earned an associate’s degree in applied agriculture from N.C. State University and a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from UNC-Chapel Hill. His career with the State Fair began in 1973, when he was still in high school. The world is huge, there’s no question about it. But it becomes a little bit smaller when working with people from across the globe. The State Fair prides itself on its diverse workforce. In the main office there is even map displaying the birth countries of its employees. Each pin on the map images below represents where a State Fair employee is from. Weekend Update: June 13-15 Father’s Day edition

The Tar Heel Triple Classic Quarter Horse Show comes to the Hunt Horse Complex this weekend. This American Quarter Horse Show runs through June 22, with show times starting at 8 a.m. Fence classes begin at 7:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday, and continue June 19-20.
