Weekend Update: June 6-8

With so much going on at the Fairgrounds this weekend, there’s sure to be something for everyone. The weekend events kicked off Thursday morning with a Welcome Home Send-Off Ceremony for World War II veterans. Operation Omaha/USO of N.C. organized the ceremony for the return of 100 WWII veterans from their visit to the National D-Day Memorial for the 70th anniversary of the battle.  Organizers anticipate the veterans returning around 7 p.m. Friday, and the public is invited to come join in this welcome home acknowledgement ceremony. A fast and fun first week

I can’t believe how quickly my first week as an intern with the State Fair has flown by! The next nine weeks will probably move just as fast, and I already know that I’m going to miss this place when the summer comes to a close. I came into this internship with a love for the fair, but without a whole lot of knowledge about its planning process or the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Weekend Update: May 30-June 1

The N.C. Junior Beef Roundup takes place Saturday and Sunday in the Graham Building. The event is coordinated by a group of juniors from all over the state, their breed advisers, the Purebred Breeders Council, the N.C. Cattlemen’s Association and the N.C. State University  4-H and Youth Livestock Department. The livestock show includes steer and breed shows, a showmanship competition, skill development and leadership development activities.
