On the blog I go by Fun House (AKA Heather Overton). At the Fair you'll find me checking out the blue ribbon winners or hanging out in Heritage Circle. It would be hard for me to pick a favorite part of the Fair, but I can tell you one thing I hate - leaving it on the last day. I can't wait for opening day!

Easter weekend events at the fairgrounds

If you have out-of-town guests for Easter or time to kill between egg hunts, then come on out to the fairgrounds. This weekend features a variety of events, including Hamfest, a sports-card and memorabilia show, the flea market and more. Weekend Update: Flea Market, Kennel Club Dog Show, Antique Extravaganza, Fiberfest and more

  Come celebrate the first weekend of spring at the fairgrounds. We’ve got a variety of events: The Raleigh Flea Market is Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Commercial and Education buildings and surrounding grounds. Come explore the hundreds of booths filled with antiques, clothes and handcrafted goods this weekend. Weekend Update: Dinosaurs: Time Trek, India Fest, Puppapalooza and more

Puppies and cats and dinosaurs? Oh my! It’s that kind of weekend at the fairgrounds where there’s something for everyone. Visitors to the State Fairgrounds can travel back to prehistoric times with the Dinosaurs: Time Trek exhibit on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Graham Building. This event will feature a life-like interactive dinosaur exhibit as well as activities such as Design-A-Dino, Prehistoric Poop and Race Through Time Labyrinth. Weekend Update: Auto fest, autocross and more

It’s a full house at the fairgrounds. Come on out and browse: The Carolina Collector Auto Fest takes over Dorton Arena, the Graham Building and the grounds between the buildings this weekend. This event is celebrating its 32nd year and will include a swap meet with more than 100 vendors and an indoor and outdoor car corral for buying and selling. Friday and Saturday will have car and truck shows for 1900-1989 vehicle years. On Sunday, the inaugural XTREME Car & Truck Showdown will be held in the Graham Building. Construction to begin on pedestrian tunnel under Trinity Road

If Trinity Road is part of your normal commute you will be faced with some closures in the coming months – but it’s all for a good cause. The N.C. Department of Transportation is building a 25-foot-wide pedestrian tunnel under Trinity Road, just east of Youth Center Drive.  Because of the construction, Trinity Road will be closed between March 5 and Aug. 1.  Detour routes will include Edwards Mill Road, Wade Avenue and Blue Ridge Road. “Pedestrian and vehicle traffic are heavy on Trinity Road not only during the annual N.C. Weekend update: Dixie Deer Classic returns for its 38th year

This weekend is for the deer hunters. The popular Dixie Deer Classic returns for its 38th year. Come check out the latest hunting equipment from more than 200 vendors in Dorton Arena, the Exposition Center, Graham, Scott and Holshouser buildings and outdoor exhibitors. Other activities include seminars, displays, trophy scoring, archery competition and the N.C. State Championship Turkey Calling Contest.   Come on out to the fairgrounds this weekend and check out the “original” tiny houses at the North Carolina Dealers Assocation Spring RV Sale. The show and sale runs Friday through Sunday in the Graham Building, Exposition Center, Dorton Arena and grounds. Promoted by N.C. RV Dealers Association, this event offers the largest selection of new and used RVs under one roof. Bullriders Finals, Kids Exchange Consignment Sale and more this weekend

Calling all cowgirls and cowboys. It’s the annual Carousel Farms American Bullriders Finals this Friday and Saturday at the Hunt Horse Complex  featuring American Bullriders Finals, Bullriding and Barrel Racing Finals. Southern Farm Show runs through Friday, Flea Market open this weekend

The annual Southern Farm Show, the largest agricultural exposition in the Carolinas and Virginia, is underway. The event runs through Feb. 2 and features more than 400 manufacturers with expert advice and the latest farm equipment, supplies and services. Celebrate the Year of the Dog, Volksfest this weekend

Saturday’s celebration of the Chinese Year of the Dog will be held Saturday in Dorton Arena. The Chinese New Year celebration will feature many Chinese and Asian cultural performances, such as lion and dragon dances, vocal performers and traditional Chinese music, food and crafts.
