Weekend Update: June 14-17

Hang out at the Fairgrounds with Dad The Tar Heel Triple Classic Quarter Horse Show comes to the Hunt Horse Complex this weekend. Classes are offered in Western Pleasure, Trail, Walk Jog, Horsemanship, Reining, Ranch Riding and Western Riding with a Barrel class on Saturday only. Halter, Showmanship, English Walk Trot, Hunter Under Saddle and Equitation are also included June 15-17. Weekend Update: June 8-10

The Exposition Center will be home to the Raleigh Money Expo, the biggest money show in the Carolinas, this weekend, June 8-10. At Raleigh Coin Club’s 45th annual coin, currency and stamp show, you can buy, sell and trade coins, paper money, stamps, gold, silver and more. There will also be free educational seminars and exhibits on Friday and Saturday, and a special “kids zone” with games and prizes. Weekend Update: June 2-3

Come Rock ‘n Ride in Raleigh Cyclists at all levels can turn their pedal power into an opportunity to give back to the community at the Rock ‘n Ride Raleigh event. This eight-hour cycling event with food, beer, live music and more, benefits the Tammy Lynn Center, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of children and adults with developmental disabilities in the Triangle. Lula Palooza kicks off Mother’s Day Weekend

If you love LuLaRoe, then don’t miss Saturday at the Fairgrounds. The Raleigh Spring Lula Palooza is in the Exposition Center. More than 13,000 items including skirts, dresses, shirts, leggings and more will be on sale. Sizes range from XXS to 3XL. The event features multiple dressing rooms and a central check out location. Construction to begin on pedestrian tunnel under Trinity Road

If Trinity Road is part of your normal commute you will be faced with some closures in the coming months – but it’s all for a good cause. The N.C. Department of Transportation is building a 25-foot-wide pedestrian tunnel under Trinity Road, just east of Youth Center Drive.  Because of the construction, Trinity Road will be closed between March 5 and Aug. 1.  Detour routes will include Edwards Mill Road, Wade Avenue and Blue Ridge Road. “Pedestrian and vehicle traffic are heavy on Trinity Road not only during the annual N.C. Dorton Arena is a field-trip destination

If you have ever attended the fair or other events at the fairgrounds, probably one of the first things you see from a distance is the odd-shaped roof of the most standout building on the grounds. J.S. Dorton Arena is certainly a symbol of the fairgrounds, but it also has an important place in architectural history. Elizabeth Grant is a professor of architecture at Virginia Tech University. As every homeowner knows, there’s always work to be done. This is especially true when your “home” is the size and scope of the N.C. State Fairgrounds. Several historic buildings and structures are located on the nearly 300 acres. The fairgrounds also hosts hundred of events annually and, of course, puts on the largest event in the state, and one of the largest fairs in the country, every October.
