A few days ago, Bearded Lady, Firecracker and Flying Bob took on the deep-fried brownie for the first installment in our series of fan-selected press office challenges. On Sunday, I took on another press office challenge. Jessica, one of our fans, asked us to try to throw clay in the Village of Yesteryear and I decided to be the guinea pig. As many of you probably know, there are several wonderful potters in the Village. Jim Weber of Milner, Ga., one of those potters, agreed to help me out. Check out the video below to see how I did.
I have to say that I went into this challenge thinking it would be tough; I have no pottery experience and I’m not too strong in the hand-eye coordination department. I was definitely proven right. After spending about 50 minutes with Jim, I realized just how tough his craft is. The skill of each and every one of the craftspeople in the village is truly astounding, and the overall exhibit is a must-see at the fair.
You can check out gun making, boat building, weaving, pottery and much more that goes in the Village of Yesteryear each day from 9 a.m. to 9:45 p.m. The exhibit is located in the Holshouser Building near Heritage Circle and Gate 8.
