Weekend Update: August 12-14

Friday and Saturday the Children’s Spring Clothing and Baby Equipment Sale will be held in the Scott Building. Sponsored by Triangle Mothers of Twins & Triplets, the event will feature gently used items on sale at drastically reduced prices. Some of the items on sale will include maternity, infant and childrens clothing, toys, books, games, bikes, bedding and equipment. Weekend Update: August 5-7

With five distinctively different events, there is truly something for everyone at the fairgrounds this weekend. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday Inkfest Live: The Urban Tattoo Expo will be held in the Exposition Center. The event will feature tattoo artists from around the world showcasing their craft. Graffiti demonstrations, live musical performances and custom car and bike displays will also be included. Weekend Update: July 15-17

The Raleigh Kids Exchange Consignment Sale begins today and continues through Sunday in the Graham Building and Exposition Center. The event bills itself as “the ultimate recycle” and “the nation’s largest consignment event.” In the past few years the event has grown steadily, so expect to see a wide variety of items. Kids Exchange is designed to allow parents to come together to buy, sell and donate clothes, toys and other children’s items. Weekend Update: July 8-10

The State 4-H Horse Show begins today at 3 p.m. and runs through Sunday night at the Hunt Horse Complex. The show is designed to highlight the achievement of North Carolina’s youth in the areas of horseback riding and horse management. The N.C. State Fair and the State 4-H have enjoyed a long tradition of cooperation. The event will feature more than 100 equine competitions and a vendor fair. Auctions America presents the Raleigh Classic Car Auctions in the Graham Building and Exposition Center. Weekend Update: June 17-19

This weekend at the fairgrounds kicks off with Maker Faire: North Carolina in the Scott Building on Saturday.  The event is designed to showcase all things home-made and entrepreneurial and to celebrate the American creative spirit.  The events will feature exhibits of handcrafted goods in a variety of categories from engineering and hacking to food and health and beyond.  Maker Faire will also include activities for kids and live music throughout the day. Behind the scenes with…Carol Turner, livestock office manager

What began as a temporary gig helping a friend, has turned into 25 years of service for Carol Turner, the N.C. State Fair livestock office manager. Carol oversees a six-person staff and coordinates with superintendents for each of the animal species during the Fair. For the past several weeks, she has been camped out in the Gate 9 ticket booth preparing for this year’s show. Her staff will join her in the Graham Building after Labor Day, where they’ll remain throughout the Fair.  One of the biggest challenges for Carol this year is converting the old entry database to new software. If you couldn’t tell by the recent weather, the turning of the seasons is upon us. Today marks the first day of fall, which can mean only one thing: There are only 22 days (!) until the N.C.
