Weekend Update: July 12-14

July 4th kept things quiet at the fairgrounds last weekend, but now we’re back with events for horse, jewel and gem enthusiasts. The State 4-H Horse Show began Wednesday and continues through Sunday. Hours this weekend are from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. The show features more than 2,600 entries in 123 classes that highlight youth 4-H members. The exhibitors are demonstrating their riding and management skills with their animals to the panel of judges. Admission is free for all spectators, so don’t miss this opportunity to support 4-H. Weekend Update: June 21-23

This weekend, the fairgrounds will travel back in time with a classic car auction and antique toy collectibles. The Raleigh Classic is hosting a Classic Car Auction Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be four private collections with more than 250 vintage vehicles for auction. Visitors can preview the cars Friday morning from 8-10 a.m. before the bidding begins. Admission for adults is $10 per day or $15 for a two-day pass. Weekend Update: May 31-June 2

  The Capital Dressage Classic takes place at the Hunt Horse Complex through Sunday, beginning at 8 a.m. each day. This event is free for spectators. Youth from across the state will converge on the Graham Building on Saturday and Sunday for the N.C. Junior Beef Roundup. This livestock show includes steer and breed shows, showmanship competition, skill development, leadership development and family activities involving cattle. The event is sponsored by the Purebred Breeders Council, the N.C. Cattlemen’s Association and the N.C. State University 4-H and Youth Livestock Department. Weekend Update: Jan. 11-13

The fairgrounds are going to the dogs. Or at least the Horse Complex and the Holshouser Building are, with two dog-centered sports taking place at the fairgrounds this weekend. There is more than $1,500 in prize money up for grabs at the Carolina Piedmont Dog Agility trials in the Hunt Horse Arena, with three full days of competition. Weekend Update: Feb. 16-19

Entrepreneurs, horses, felines, fish and the start of the 2012 Carolina Rollergirls season are all part of a presidential lineup of events this weekend at the N.C. State Fairgrounds. The Carolina Rollergirls return to Dorton Arena Saturday for the start of the 2012 season.
