This weekend is for the deer hunters. The popular Dixie Deer Classic returns for its 38th year. Come check out the latest hunting equipment from more than 200 vendors in Dorton Arena, the Exposition Center, Graham, Scott and Holshouser buildings and outdoor exhibitors. Other activities include seminars, displays, trophy scoring, archery competition and the N.C. State Championship Turkey Calling Contest. More than $50,000 in hunting gear and prizes are given away each year. Hours are Friday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $12 for ages 13 and older (get your hand stamped for return admission good for the entire weekend), children 12 and under are admitted free. Special admission ticket of $6 for Friday only for youth ages 13 to 18, seniors 65 and over, military and women.
The Raleigh Flea Market is Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Commercial and Education buildings and surrounding grounds. Come explore the hundreds of booths filled with antiques, clothes and handcrafted goods this weekend. Been doing a little spring cleaning? Rent a booth and sell some of your unwanted stuff. The Garden Bros Circus is in Dorton Arena on Tuesday, March 6, and Wednesday, March 7. The show includes more than 60 performers from 18 countries featuring the high-flying aerial daredevils, crazy Cossack horse riders, six motorcycles in the Sphere of Fear, comedy dogs, the Wheel of Death, and clowns. Show times are 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for children and $25 for adults. VIP ringside seats are $20 for children and $35 for adults. Special ticket deals are available online. Only one free child’s ticket can be used per paid adult. Credit cards are accepted online, but cash only at the door. Doors open at 3:30 p.m. each day.
