This weekend is for the deer hunters. The popular Dixie Deer Classic returns for its 37th annual event. Come check out the latest hunting equipment from more than 200 vendors in Dorton Arena, the Exposition Center, Graham, Scott and Holshouser buildings and outdoor exhibitors. Other activities include seminars, displays, trophy scoring, archery competition and the N.C. State Championship Turkey Calling Contest. More than $50,000 in hunting gear and prizes are given away each year. Special guests include Lee and Tiffany from Crush along with Chris Brackett from Fear No Evil. Hours are Friday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $12 for age 13 and older (get your hand stamped for return admission good for the entire weekend), children 12 and under are admitted free. Special admission ticket for Friday only: youth ages 13 to 18, seniors 65 and over, military and all women can purchase their admission ticket for $6.
The Ranch Sorting National Championship Tough South Eastern Regional Super Sort Show is Friday through Sunday at the Hunt Horse Complex. No other cow-horse competition has as much to offer to such a wide variety of riders. RSNC sorting takes place in a controlled environment where a rider can set his or her own pace and can be a great schooling experience for young horses! Event starts daily at 9 a.m. with free spectator admission.
