A trip to the State Fairgrounds this weekend might put you in a festive holiday mood for the first weekend of December. There’s plenty of opportunities to shop and celebrate the season with the Raleigh Flea Market, Scandinavian Christmas Fair, Toy Train Sale and Swap and the annual Holiday Classic Open Horse Show. - The Scandinavian Christmas Fair transports visitors back in time through an authentic celebration of holiday traditions found in Sweden, Norway and Denmark. This event is Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Holshouser Building. Adult admission is $7, and children ages 12 and under are admitted free. The food court will have Swedish meatballs, salmon and homemade breads. The Christmas fair features unique crafts, cultural exhibits, folk dancing, children’s activities and the time-honored Lucia procession.
- The Holiday Classic Open Horse Show is Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. in the Hunt Horse Complex. Admission is free. This event offers western, hunter and saddleseat divisions.
- The Toy Train Sale and Swap Meet is Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Scott Building. Adult admission is $6, and children ages 12 and under are admitted free with a paying adult. This event will feature more than 100 vendors as well as workshops and minor on-site repairs. Go to www.se-tca.org for more information.
- The Raleigh Flea Market is Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Commercial and Education building and surrounding grounds. Come explore the hundreds of booths filled with antiques, clothes and handcrafted goods this weekend.
