Here’s some good news for folks who enjoy down-home cookin’. The State Farmers Market Restaurant is scheduled to reopen Saturday, March 14, following a two-month repair and renovation project.

The project involved repairs to the kitchen walls, drains and floor, plus work on heating and air-conditioning ducts. A new cooler and freezer were installed, and the flooring in the dining room was replaced.

Gypsy Gilliam has operated the State Farmers Market Restaurant since 2002. She leases the space from the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, which oversees the market.

Gilliam says visitors will notice some changes when the restaurant reopens. Patio seating will be available, and the restaurant will be open for dinner on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

We LOVE the Farmers Market. My friends in North Raleigh never go – say it is too far. I tell them they are crazy and they don’t know what they’re missing. As much as we like the restaurant, I am usually dieting, so don’t eat there as much as I would like to. We do buy all of our veggies, bedding plants, etc. there every year. It’s fun to just go and browse and hang out. LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!!!
