The third annual Got to Be NC Festival runs May 21-23 at the State Fairgrounds in Raleigh.
The NCDA&CS started this festival in 2008 to showcase North Carolina’s rich agricultural heritage, and it continues to grow each year.
One new attraction this year is a fish fry sponsored by the Shriners. On Friday, the Shriners will be cooking up North Carolina catfish, trout and shrimp from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the Shriners Children’s Hospital.
Another new event this year is the NASCAR Street Tour sponsored by Ford. You can check out tricked-out Ford vehicles sporting big-screen TVs, satellite hookups and more. The NASCAR Street Tour will be located between Dorton Arena and the Jim Graham Building.
The Masons will be back on Saturday with their Pig Jig, a barbecue cook-off. We’re expecting about 30 teams of Masons to compete in the Pig Jig this year. After the competition, the barbecue will be chopped and sold to raise money for two children’s homes in Oxford.
The festival also will feature antique tractors and farm equipment, a full carnival, the food and wine expo, a fiber fair, draft horse pull, tractor pull, lawnmower racing and live music.
Festival hours are 9 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday. Admission and parking are free. Tickets to grandstand events are only $5.
