Regions add new flavor to Best Dish contest

The Best Dish in North Carolina restaurant contest, which showcases fine-dining and casual-dining restaurants using locally sourced ingredients, is adding a little spice to its annual competition. This year, contest organizers have divided the state into three regions – Western, Piedmont and Eastern. Now, restaurants will have the opportunity to compete against other restaurants in their area. The change brings more focus to locally sourced products in a particular area of the state. Tim Parrish, NCDA&CS foodservice marketing specialist, says that he has seen more interest in the competition since going to a regional system. Recently, we spoke with Parrish about the contest and the new changes.

Restaurants wishing to participate in this year’s Best Dish have until March 31 to submit an application. After all written entries have been received, 10 finalists will be selected from each region. Judges will visit each of the 30 finalists and will choose two winners from each region, one for casual dining and one for fine dining. The six winners will be featured in the November issue of Our State magazine.
