In the Kitchen with Brian and Lisa: Asparagus cheese bread

By on June 30, 2011

WRAL reporter Brian Shrader and our own Lisa Prince feature seasonal recipes in their Got to Be Good Cookin’ segment using ingredients grown and available right here in North Carolina.

If you’re looking for a rich and colorful side dish for your Fourth of July celebration, try this recipe for asparagus cheese bread. To prepare the asparagus, snap off the ends and steam the stalks in a bath of olive oil and water. The cheese topping is made by melting sharp cheddar cheese and a cheese of your choice into heavy cream, then adding dry mustard, garlic and pepper to the mix. The dish works well with any meat, and would be an easy addition to your weekend cookout plans.

You can find fresh, locally grown ingredients for this recipe and others at farmers markets and roadside stands across the state. To find a location near you, go to www.ncfarmfresh.com.
