NCDA&CS' International Marketing office hosted Chinese lumber buyers in Western North Carolina, Aug. 26.

Last week, the department’s International Marketing office hosted a delegation of Chinese lumber buyers in Asheville. The group, which represented 11 Chinese lumber companies, were in Western North Carolina to learn more about Appalachian hardwoods and visit with N.C. lumber companies. The visit included a reception at the Western N.C. Agricultural Center and tours of lumber operations in the area.

China has become a major export partner for N.C. companies. According to data from the U.S. Census Bureau, North Carolina exported 636.5 million kg of lumber and wood products to China last year. International marketing specialists are working with local lumber companies to increase those numbers. Hosting inbound trade missions, like the one in Asheville, are one of the ways the department can help promote agricultural products overseas.
