Last year, Charlotte's Polka Dot Bake Shop took top honors in the Sofi awards at the Summer Fancy Food Show. This year, two N.C. companies are nominated for awards.

North Carolina will have a strong representation at North America’s largest specialty food and beverage event this weekend, as 24 local companies make their way to the Summer Fancy Food Show in New York. The annual show runs June 30 to July 2, and features 180,000 products including confections, cheeses, coffees, snacks, spices and organic products from more than 80 countries.

One of the highlights of the show is the announcement of the sofi Award winners. Sofi, which stands for specialty outstanding food innovation, is the highest honor in the specialty food industry and is presented by the National Association for the Specialty Food Trade during the show. Two North Carolina products have been nominated this year for a sofi Award: Cackalacky Sauce and Vintage Bee’s Creamed Honey with Hibiscus.

This year’s finalists were selected from a record number 2,573 entries across 32 award categories. Last year, Charlotte’s Polka Dot Bake Shop (now Millchap Sweet Potato Co.) took top honors with its Sweet Potato Crackers.

Following is a list of participating N.C. companies:

Several of the companies will be posting updates from the show through Twitter. Stay connected by following these companies and others on our N.C. Specialty Foods list.
