Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler sits down each week with Southern Farm Network’s Rhonda Garrison to discuss “Today’s Topic.”

For many families that are scattered throughout the state, Christmas is a time when the whole family comes home. This yearly family reunion is a great time to talk to younger generations about the importance of agriculture in North Carolina and the importance of a farm heritage.

And if you didn’t grow up on the farm, it’s still important to recognize the importance of agriculture. Many holiday foods and decorations are grown, raised, caught or made in North Carolina and contribute to our state’s $84 billion agribusiness economy. There are lots of agritourism locations throughout the state to explore as well.

It’s also a time to remember the less fortunate and to be generous in supporting food banks.

Commissioner Troxler and the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services wishes you and your family a safe and happy holiday season!
