A North Carolina native, Emily Hughes earned a degree in Communications and in Spanish at Appalachian State University. She then worked full time from 2016 to 2018 as a Communications Specialist for a municipality outside of Charlotte while she earned a Master of Public Administration. She began working for the Agriculture Department in August of 2018 in the Public Affairs division.
